Default Sites for News and Pleasure (No, not that kind of pleasure) - 01-21-2010

I have found myself stuck in a little rut lately. I tend to check the same news websites each morning...the same gossip sites....the same blah blah blah.

Sometimes I just like to surf around for news and random interesting things....but I am googled out. You guys all seem to find interesting things to share...every so often....so I will ask for some advice and see what I get.

Question: What sites do you check daily to get your news and entertainment?

The sites I usually check in the mornings are this one, several news sites (both national and local) and then some entertaining sites which are:

www.xkcd.com which is a web comic that comes out every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

www.peopleofwalmart.com is hilarous.

www.awkwardfamilyphotos.com is another good one. I check that one about once a week.

http://powderworks.net which is the GC member powerburned's site. He has feeds from other sites that are tekkie in nature. I spoke to him yesterday and he says he'll even have more stuff on there here soon.

http://gizmodo.com/ this one is where I find info on gadgets that are out or upcoming.

Well that's all I can think of right now.

Nice thread. I too would like to see what everyone else looks at.

This is my fav "WTF?!?" site. Not one I'll hit every day but one I will return to once in a while.

Let me say straight out that this is a "baby's first flashgame" website for some childrens show I've never heard of. It's the internet's equiv to those "busy boxes" toddlers have but the fact that I have no idea who any of the characters are and the complete lack of a "point" make this site just too surreal for words. I could probably do some research and find out more about the source material but I really don't want to ruin the mystery. It's just better if you don't know.

Welcome to the Boobah zone!!

I'll also often check on my podcasts to see if new episodes are up: Rawrcast and The Instance are WoW related podcasts and Hi-Sci-Fi is a geeky radio show with a Canadian slant that I follow.

Can't forget to hit the EZTV torrent site and see if there are any episodes of television I recently missed that I'll want to watch later. (stumbled across many really good British TV shows via this site.)

...and of course sites like Something Awful and LOLcats ( been digging their spin-off Failbooking lately) for their humor content.

I get most of my news from more traditional media, like TV and radio. ( I know right, who listens to radio anymore?)

You guys are not disappointing me with these sites.

People of Walmart is too funny....good techie sites Liz.

Gigo...you are amazing....that first website is crazy.

I like all these options so far. We'll see if anyone else adds any more.

lol, I showed the Boobah zone to my 17 month old. I've never seen him sit and stare as long as he did. It's gotta be sending him hidden messages. I don't think he even blinked.

Oh if any of you are on Facebook ( the spinoff Gigo mention reminded me of this) then look up the profile "Sh*t my dad says". It does have lots of cursing. This guy, all he does is post things his dad says and they are hilarious.

For those who like peopleofwalmart, check their sister site:

www.youdrivewhat.com

It's nothing but weird/funny vehicles, not necessarily always at a Wal Mart.

Thanks Lizentor for plugging my site! It's still being developed ATM but it's shaping up...

For news, Techcrunch and gizmodo are absolutely on the list.

One other funny site that my teenager recommended is http://icanhascheezburger.com/

If we want to toss in a few single visit oddities then allow me to add:

Live web feeds from inside the coffins of dead people.

Seriously, wtf interwebz? Just when I think you've jumped the shark on crazy...

SeeMeRot.com

prolly NSFW, "questionable" site sponsorship just makes it all the more WTF.

Thanks for all your replies guys...Lots of good new stuff to discover.

I just downloaded StumbleUpon...It's a firefox add on. It asks you to do a checklist of some of your basic interests....when you open fire fox...and you press the stumble button...it takes you to random sites that you might find interesting. It's been kinda interesting so far.

I did take a pass on seeing bodies rotting inside the coffins though....amazing what exists out there. Good find Gigo..lol

Another one I have found recently is fmylife.com It's like Twitter in a way. You just post a few sentences about something that just happened to you that made you say F my life.
